At the time it seemed like a good idea. I bumped into a pal during the day who suggested we go see the game at a new place on The Main he’d heard about, with a bazillion screens and a Habs-crazed atmosphere. As we approached the newish Windsor Hyper Bar & Grill (eds. note: Hyper?), the two Habs flags blowing in the Arctic breeze outside tipped us off that we might be at the right place.

And? Well let’s just say the quest for the perfect bar to watch Les Boys continues. I liked the mob-scene style under the mega screen near the front but there was little in the way of Habs fever at this drinking hole – hardly anyone seemed to be watching the Canadiens-Flyers match-up and they really need to fix a TV system that goes on and off like your TV set used back in Moscow in the early ’60s.

And can you blame the Windsor party animals for not watching? What a snoozer. Me and my buddie made a run for it after two periods and I caught the end at the homestead. Let’s just say the most entertaining part of the game was the après-match show on 98.5 FM with Ron Fournier. How does this guy stay so revved up every night? Best line from Ron Ron Ron? “Parros Parros Parros. Il a de la misère à jouer au hockey.”

Well most of the boys had la misère playing hockey last night. They were asleep, which is why they went nearly six periods this week without scoring a goal, before Alex Galchenyuk potted one right at the end of the third Thursday, a classic case of too little too late.

Positives? None really, except that Brendan Gallagher was in a fury at the end of the game, appearing to get in a fight with Flyers goalie Steve Mason. See Gally is one guy who is always revved up to the max – kind of like an on-ice version of Ron Ron Ron – and his team-mates could maybe take a little inspiration from him.

So will the losing streak last as long as the winning strike? Ha ha. Just kidding.

The Barfly is the perect place to watch the Habs win, to watch ’em lose and to not watch them at all.
