I don’t usually post my Gazette articles in this space for the very good reason that most of my Gazoo pieces are on showbiz topics and this sacred spot is reserved for all things hockey.

But the two universes intersect this morning with my Gaz feature on the joys of outdoor hockey. Check it out here. There are also shorter sidebar articles on how climate change is messing with outdoor rinks, Mayor Applebaum talking about the fight over a Snowdon rink that got him into politics, the Habs refrigerated rinks and a profile of legendary City foreman and rinks specialist Claude Nicol.

Also make sure to check out the video of shinny games in Hudson and Mile End. The video is a little hard to find – click on the the headline, Instagram: Your Favourite Rinks, on the right of the article. You have to see my pal Bruce Dinsmore weighing in on the Benson classic, the game that happens every Friday night in Hudson. Hey Bruce, I still hope to get there at least once before the season ends, hopefully with our pal Paul ‘Sticks’ Remmington in on the action.

And guess what? It looks like an amazing day for shinny today (Saturday) – it’s colder, the sky is a stunning blue. So I’m off to Sport au Gus to sharpen me and my son’s skates, maybe even get myself a fresh stick and then hit the ice this af! Shinny on man!
