Just send Scott Gomez home

This is not personal. It’s not that I dislike Scott Gomez. I don’t really care that much one way or the other. My concern is the fortunes of his team and I think it’s clear he’s not helping the Habs in any shape or form. Nine goals over the past two seasons – including just two last season – is not a sign of a player helping his club, particularly since he doesn’t bring anything to the table except offence.

Listen this isn’t even my idea. Many others have expressed the same thought, including Le prophete himself, Ron ‘Ron Ron’ Fournier, on Les Amateurs de sports Thursday night on 98.5 FM. What he suggested made a lot of sense. Pay Gomez one half of his $4.5 million salary for this shortened season and then tell him you no longer need his services.

You do that because you are obviously going to make him one of your two amnesty buy-outs in the 2013-2014 season and the one thing you don’t want to do is run the risk of him injuring himself during the season, like he did last year. Because if he’s not healthy come September, you’re not allowed to use that amnesty buy-out on him.

Sounds like a good plan to me. It’ll cost the team but is there really any other option at this point?
