Do you miss Benoit Pouliot?

I don’t really. Benoit Pouliot never remotely lived up to expectations in Montreal. Well actually his first year chez les Habs – 2009-2010 – was his best for us, with the left winger notching 15 goals and 9 assists in 39 games after coming here from Minnesota in the Guillaume Latendresse deal.

But last year, he was a bust – 13 goals and 17 assists in 79 games. And he doesn’t look much better this year in Boston, where he so far has seven goals and three assists in 29 games.

Anyhow, I bring this up cos my pal Kristian Gravenor was telling me – on Facebook, of course – that Pouliot is a beast. I begged to differ. Then he pointed me in the direction of this video. Check out this astonishing goal Pouliot scored just before Christmas.

Maybe the guy is a beast!

  1. When Pouliot arrived he scored 15 goals in 39 games for the Habs. That’s a 30+ goal season. Keep in mind that only 7 players scored 35 goals or more last year. Pouliot was on a line with Gomez and Gionta, the only winger who was racking them up with Gomez. But the production fell off everybody assumed it was Pouliot’s fault. Look what happened to Gomez after that. Plus his one punch knockout of Kreci in the playoffs was just about one of the only highlights of the post-season last year.

I still maintain that had Martin played Pouliot with his fresh legs in game 7 rather than that slow old centreman who couldn’t get to the point fast enough (what was his name? He’s on Washington now) we would have won that series.

I would think Dick Pound has asked for a urine sample after that display !!
