Don’t let Scott Gomez back into the Habs line-up

Scott Gomez has been out with an upper-body injury since that horrific game in Pittsburgh Oct. 20 – the game the players gave up on the coach – and, shortly after Gomez exited the Habs line-up with an injury, the team turned its fortunes around.

As Gazette sports editor Stu Cowan notes in a recent blog post, the Canadiens won three straight without Gomez. So clearly you have a winning formula. So why mess with it?

When Gomer is healthy enough to play, why not send him down to the Hamilton Bulldogs for a little conditioning? Gomez had one assist in his first six games this season and – though I feel like he hasn’t scored since the Rocket Riot – he in fact hasn’t put the puck in the back of the net since last February. (Note to Scott: If you don’t shoot, you won’t score.)

So send him down to ride the bus in Hamilton and see if that lights a fire under his loopy grin. Either that or suggest to him he take some of that $7.5 million he’s earning this year – like say half of it – stuff it into a suitcase, head down to Ste. Catherine St. and start handing back the dough to us fans who’ve been so tortured by his lacklustre play.
